British Infantry Officers' Sword 1803 Pattern Ref: 010.16

Price: £1,675

Item Description:

A good 1803 Pattern Infantry Officers' sword. Of typical form with regulation gilt hilt, pierced knuckle bow with "GR" cypher and crown above plus a bold lion head pommel. The grip is of blackened leather bound with copper wire. The original scabbard is in good condition with a few dents to the chape.

The blade is of higher quality than usual though now with much of the blued background missing. The engraving retains much of its original gilt highlighting. Both sides are mounted with the usual stands of arms, royal arms, Britannia, GR cypher with crown above and scrolls of foliage on the blued background which extends for around 12.5 inches from the hilt (31 cm), beyond which the blade is frost etched for a further 7.5 inches (19 cm) either side with panels of scrolling foliage.
