Scarce Steel Stirrup Hilted Cavalry Sword with Quill Point Blade and Presentation Inscription

Item Description:


A fine and scarce early 19th century British 1796 Pattern Steel Stirrup Hilted Cavalry Sword with Pipe Back, Quill Point and elongated pommel. The fish skin grip is bound with silver wire. The sword retains its steel scabbard.


The sword is in very good condition with the hilt and scabbard retaining the original browned finish. The blade is engraved with gilt floral motifs and a stand of arms on one side plus an inscription on the other on a  faded blued background. The inscription reads in separate scrolled sections in a ladder-like structure:


"The Gift of Major Brook to Serjeant Major M  Barlow Kings Cheshire Yeomanry Cavalry 1837".
